WHAT IS PILATES ?
Pilates is a method of exercise that offers many benefits for both the body and mind. It strengthens and lengthens muscles to create greater muscle tone and flexibility. Pilates' exercises are also designed to encourage correct alignment and movement of the joints in the body; this is important to preserve the health and mobility of joints. It focuses on working the deep stabilising muscles that are responsible for correct posture and functional movement. Pilates also promotes body awareness, relaxation, improves blood circulation, increases lung capacity and focuses the mind. One of the main objectives of Pilates is to encourage the health and mobility of the spine; it is therefore an excellent and safe mode of exercise for rehabilitation.
